Profile Evaluation Please - 670 GMAT, Consulting

by chrisbsaxon Mon Apr 30, 2012 5:41 pm

Hi,

Given my background and future goals listed below, I have a few questions. Of course, any advice is greatly appreciated!

1. Should I retake the GMAT, considering my quant ranks only in the 64 percentile?

2. How realistic are my target schools?

GMAT: 670 (Q43,V39) 1st attempt

Undergraduate: BA in 2009 in Economics and International Studies, 3.5 GPA, UNC-Chapel Hill

Work experience: Working with top 10 Health Care consulting firm since graduation. Expected promotion from analyst to associate in July 2012. Hospital Revenue Cycle (operations) focused experience. Strong recommendations.

Extracurricular: 6 months International Development experience in college, as well as Fraternity leadership positions. Post-college, have volunteered with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Atlanta.

MBA timeline/goals: I am interested in applying in the fall of 2013. I would like to pursue an MBA/MHA or Health Care focused MBA. Aim to enhance Health Care finance and operations knowledge to prepare for leadership/management in Hospital Admin or finance.

Target schools:
- UNC
- Emory
- Boston Univ.
- Vanderbilt
- Kellogg

Thank you!

Hi! Your GMAT score is OK for the schools you are interested in applying to (except for Kellogg), but the quant portion is a little low. If you thought you had the time, I would consider taking the GMAT again to see if you could raise your score. Schools will look at your best score only, so a higher score would only work to your advantage. As you know, your GMAT score is just one piece of what the AdComs will look at. They will also focus on your professional experiences - in terms of your career growth and what kind of accomplishments you have had at work. Leadership also will play a role in your outside activities - they want people who aren't just showing up at volunteer events but are helping to organize or raise money, etc. Lastly, a big component comes in your recommendations and whether those letters detail your strengths and the impact you have had.

Best of luck,

Rachel Beck
