Profile Evaluation- Indian Female, 710 GMAT, 3 years Work Ex

by riddhi0801 Sun May 18, 2014 4:39 am

Hi,
I have recently taken the GMAT, and improved from a 640 -46-Q/33-V/6-AWA(2012) to a 710 -49-Q/36-V/6-AWA/8-IR (2014).
I will soon be sitting for a TOEFL as well.

I passed out from the Indraprastha University, New Delhi, India in 2014, having done my B.Tech in IT. I scored 80%, which is GPA 3.5-4.0

I have been working with a software MNC for the past 2 years, and by the time I join a b-school next year, I will have over 3 years of work experience.

I have excellent (I do not overstate here) extra-curriculars throughout school, college and at work also -including having lead teams of 15+ people for organizing various college events, for 2 years in a row. I also have NGO experience -ongoing in fact, of around 3 years already now.
I have also lived abroad (London, UK-2004 to 2008), have studied in an International school and completed my MYP (IB) (equivalent to Grade 10) there.

I'm targetting at schools like ISB, NUS, NTU, SMU, CEIBS, HKUST, Rotman etc.
Please suggest any other schools that I can look at, and what my chances are of getting in, for the schools that I have mentioned above.

Thanks,
Riddhi

Hi Riddhi,

Thanks for posting. Congrats on the GMAT improvement. Overall I think your list is on-target. In terms of suggesting additional schools, were you looking to focus on Asia and Canada or what sorts of schools are you looking for? There are many factors to consider; for more on choosing schools, check out our free download at: http://info.mbamission.com/Selecting-Yo ... ram-E-Book.

I think your experience leading teams is good and should be highlighted, even if outside of work. Any leadership you can show professionally would also help. I don't know much about your current role and accomplishments etc?? So that can make a big impact too. Your international experience is a plus so be sure to discuss how that influenced you, what you learned from it, etc.

I also don't know what your post-MBA goals are...that can impact your admissions decision, as well as what schools you want to apply to.

Good luck on this process and keep us posted!

Hi Jennifer,

Yes, I am looking at b schools mainly in Asia but that isn't my only criteria. I'm focussed on schools that will have a good leadership driven courses and I plan on going into consultancy post Mba. I am also looking at schools where I can get a scholarship. If I get a great college somewhere but the fees is too high and at the same time get a nearly good school where I can get a scholarship I'll pick the school with scholarship.
Could you suggest schools in the US where I could have a decent chance of getting in and also schools where there is a high chance of getting a scholarship.

Thanks for evaluation!
Cheers
Riddhi

Hi Riddhi,

It would be tough to specifically suggest schools at which you might get a scholarship.... certainly schools in the top 30 or so in the US are very competitive for scholarships and only give them to really exceptional candidates...while you have a lot of strong factors in your profile, so far I'm not sure it's that much more exceptional than that of many qualified applicants so as to set you apart for scholarships. Most b-school students finance their tuition through low-cost educational loans, paid back over 5-15 years with their post-MBA salaries, fyi, and still deem it an overall worthwhile investment.

Perhaps if you looked at US schools outside the top 40 or so, scholarships may be more likely. (See US News & World Report). Small chance for 30-40. I would focus more on what you see your post-MBA goal to be and what school and geographic location will get you there. Good luck!
