Profile Evaluation - GMAT650(Quant 49,Verbal 30)

by ritraj Thu Jan 12, 2012 2:05 pm

Hi,
I'm targeting Sept. 2012 intake, General Management program of 12-18 months duration. Some of the colleges on my mind are :

University of Cambridge: Judge
University of Oxford: Saïd
Manchester Business School
City University: Cass
Cranfield School of Management
Imperial College Business School
Lancaster University Management School

Can you please help evaluate my chance of making through one of the above B-Schools? Additionally, are there any (good ones like : Ivey, Rotman, Schulich) Schools/Univ.s in Canada where I stand a realistic chance of making through?

Below is a brief of my profile :

Nationality : Indian
Age : 30
GMAT Score : 650( maths : 49 / 85% , Verbal : 30 / 56%)
Academic Performance : Always between ( 65-66% )
Graduation : Bachelor of Engineering ( Metallurgical Engineering and Material Science, National Institute of Technology)

Total Work Exp. : 5.5 years (Across Two industries: Metals , IT )

Companies worked for :
1) Aluminium company :
-- Smelter Operations( Managerial Role, Shift in charge, hot metal production)
-- 1 year

2) Information Technology :
-- Senior Software Engineer
-- 4.5 years
-- Across different domains: Investment Banking, E-commerce
-- Multiple Technology streams(J2EE,LAMP)
-- Worked at Client site for 6 months

3) 2.5 years of Career break : To prepare for Civil Services Exam. I didn't make through but developed a very good understanding of Public Administration and political Science and got exposure to humanities subjects like Economics. I believe, if correctly presented this could be a strong point on my application rather than a weakness.

Please help. Thanks in advance.

Regards,
Ritesh

Hi! It is difficult for me to pick a particular school for you because deciding what MBA program is right for you is a personal decision based on a whole host of factors - location, academic focus, size, etc. The good news for you is that your GMAT score looks to be right about in the middle of the range that many of these schools look for. As you pull together your applications, look for ways to differentiate your experiences from others with similar backgrounds and highlight your accomplishment, not responsibilities, during your career to date.

Best of luck,
Rachel Beck
