Profile Evaluation: GMAT-710, Q-49, V-38, 2yrs Work-Ex

by gimmered Tue Mar 08, 2011 7:30 pm

I was wondering if experts could evaluate my profile:

GMAT: 710, 92%
Quant: 49, 86%
Verbal: 38, 83%

2 Yrs work Experience in Medical Device/Pharmaceutical industry as Business Development and then as Operations Manager. Age 31.

Quit from the job and founded a startup corp last year.

Have a MS + PhD in Bioengineering. GPA 3.72.

- Leadership awards at Grad School in 2005, 2006 and 2007.
- Scholarship from Sigma-Xi.
- Had a major leadership/volunteer role for 5 years at Grad School.
- Member of Sigma-Xi and American Mensa.

Undergrad from Univ of Mumbai, India in Biomedical Engineering with strong academics.

Targetting Full-time MBA starting Fall 2011 at:
Northwestern - Kellogg
Univ of Chicago - Booth
Univ of IL, Urbana Champaign

Question for knowledgeable people:
1. What other schools should I be targetting that you would recommend? I decided getting into a B-school only 2 weeks ago and have not had a chance to research at all as I got busy preparing for GMAT which was today.
2. Should I take GMAT again? I could have easily gotten 20-30 points more but messed up last 3-4 question in each section (pressed on time).
3. Am I late in applying for Fall 2011 start date?

Appreciate all the help and guidance. Let me know if you need to know any other information that I may have missed. Thanks!

Hi there,

Thanks for writing in and sharing your story.

1) I can't evaluate other schools without knowing more about your background, your post-MBA plans, etc. Schools will want to know why you are seeking an MBA at this stage in your career, and applying this late in the application season does make it even harder to gain acceptance.

2) If you indeed are applying for 2011 season, I suggest not taking the GMAT again and focusing on your essays, where increased time will likely lead to a better payoff.

3) Technically schools are still accepting Round 3 applications, but you indeed are a bit late for the 2011 cycle, as the last round at schools like Kellogg and Booth are traditionally very difficult to get into. If you are determined to begin an MBA this year your chances at UI will be stronger than those other schools though.

Good luck!
