Profile Evaluation GMAT 710/2.5yrs work exp

by naqvi.shozab Thu Oct 14, 2010 6:38 am

I took GMAT score (710) and got my AWA score today
verbal 36/ 78%
Quant 50/ 93%
AWA 4.5/ 37%
GPA 3.23

I am working at one of Pakistan's largest banks (local) and have been working in derivatives, an area which is extremely new for this market. I have made some lasting changes to the transaction processes here After which I was promoted. I have introduced new instruments here, built a sales team and have been supervising the desk. The desk has also reported very strong performances during last two years. I have also executed two very large deals during this time.

I have also other leadership experiences through extra curricular. Plus have non-profit experience too..

Im looking to apply to the following schools

Booth, Haas, GSB, HBS, Darden

My main worry is the low gpa and awa scores.
Can you please evaluate my profile?

Thanks.

Hi naqvi,

Thanks for writing in.

AWA is usually a very minor element in the admissions decision, I would not recommending retaking the test to try and raise your AWA, since your overall GMAT score is quite good.

It sounds like you have an interesting breadth of experience -- from innovative finance work to nonprofits -- and this will help build your credibility as candidate with diverse interests.

I think you would be in the competitive mix at all of those schools. HBS and Stanford could still be a bit of a reach given the extremely competitive applicant pool -- but Booth and Haas seem to be on target -- and you should be more competitive at Darden.

Good luck!
