Profile Evaluation: GMAT 700 (Q:49, 87%ile: V:35, 73%ile)

by phs0705 Tue Oct 06, 2009 9:49 am

Hello,

I have scored 700 (Q:49, 87%ile: V:35, 73%ile) in GMAT.

I am a Mechanical Engineer with 67% and 6 year full time industry experience.
My work experience has been diversified. In that I have a 2-year work-ex in Product Design and Development in tire industry, 1.5 year in Business Development for an engineering KPO and above 2.5 years as a Engineer-Analyst (FEA) in KPO.

Does this variation stand to benefit me or would it be looked as some negative??
My achievements in the various capacities have been laudatory but have not really culminated into substantial growth in responsibilities due to frequent changes.

As of extra curricular activities my participation in the branch engineering association in my college is all I have worth mentioning.

My target colleges are INSEAD (i have a 4 month experience in France as a consultant), NSU, AIM, ISB.

What are my chances ??

Thanks in advance.

Hi -

Having diverse experience in a few jobs is not a bad thing in and of itself, but you will need to use your personal statement to explain the connections between your positions and how that experience has led you to the decision to pursue an MBA. In addition, you should draw links between what you have done and what you intend to do after school.

As it relates to your professional trajectory -- you seem to have indicated it has been relatively flat -- this can be a risk associated with moving jobs. With that said, I would focus on what you have accomplished in each position.

Your challenge will be to differentiate yourself from the pool of Indian, engineering applicants. We always suggest developing a well-rounded list of target schools. I am not as familiar with NSU, AIM so it would be difficult for me to comment on your chances. I would say INSEAD would be somewhat of a stretch school, so balancing out your list with other, somewhat less selective programs, could make sense.

Best,
Erin
