profile evaluation for MIM

by vijayaditya.vij Fri Aug 08, 2014 7:19 am

Hello Sir/Ma'am,
I am doing mechanical engineering from one of the reputated institutes in India and planning to apply for MIM. I would really appreciate your help to tell me my chances in getting into top b schools. My profile:

Age: 22
GMAT:650 ( q 50 v 28) IR 4 AWA 4
CGPA: 8/10

Internship: 1 month internship in project management from indonesia in one of the leading company globally.
Planning to do few more internship in management.

Extra curricular: Board member in one of the club/chapter in my college.
Have few certificates of conducting various workshops, events etc.
Have done few projects.

I wish to apply to following colleges:
1. HEC Paris
2. Essec business school
3.IE business school

I am also planning to apply to ESADE business school, Emlyon business school and Rotterdam school of management to be on safe side.

Please tell me what chances do i have to get into the first three and the last three colleges i have mentioned. I am also planning to write a research paper in management. Would that help significantly? What else can I do to improve my admission chances.
I would also like to know that would it be wise to apply to colleges like HEC Montreal and University of Sydney Business School ( Low in ranking but one of the top colleges in their country). Please suggest me some other colleges according to my profile.
Also suggest me whether a good IELTS score would help me to make up for my low verbal score. Should I consider giving GMAT again considering the time left for application deadlines which is generally in Oct, Nov?
Thank you.

Hi there,

Thanks for posting. Overall you are on the right track with a solid GPA; some internship experience and some activities/involvement in undergrad, though the more dedicated you are and able to speak to why you are involved etc, the better, and community involvement would also be a plus.

HEC is quite competitive for MiM... likely would be difficult at the current GMAT score level. Bottom line is yes... I would recommend trying the GMAT once more for better chances at the schools you are interested in, since they will get many applicants with higher GMAT scores! And taking it more than once is fairly common. No I don't feel that an IELTS score will quite replace the GMAT. ;) And sure you can look into those additional programs you mentioned; still very reputable. The Financial Times has a ranking for MiM programs you might find useful as well.

Keep us posted on questions and your progress, good luck!
