Profile evaluation and retaking gmat.

by purvi.gupta.g Thu Dec 09, 2010 1:17 pm

Hi

Would appreciate a profile evaluation.

I am applying for M.Sc Finance and Finance and Accounting courses in UK.
I am applying to-
LSE- Msc Finance and Accounting and M.Sc Finance
Cambridge- M.Phil Finance
Warwick- M.sc Finance
Durham- M.Sc Finance and M.Sc Finance and Accounting
Apart from these, I am also applying to Manchester, Leeds, Lancaster, Strathclyde and Exeter.
But I want to pursue finance from LSE, Cambridge, Warwick or Durham. These are my priorities.

Following are my details

Gmat- 650 (Q49,V31) (Planning to retake in January)

Graduation- Bachelor in Commerce from Lady Shri Ram College for Women, Delhi University
67.9%

Class XIIth- 94%
Class Xth- 88.8%

Internship with Castrol India Ltd- Finance Department (1 month)

Cleared the Equity Derivatives Exam conducted by National Stock Exchange of India with a distinction (79%).
Currently enrolled for Equity Research Exam.

Was associated with Entretia 2008-2010 (The Entrepreneurship Cell at LSR college) and laid its foundation stone.
Won various intercollege competitions in arts and painting.
Worked with Shanti Sahyog (An NGO) in Delhi.
Was member of school student council for two consecutive years.
Also, member of the school Choir.

I plan to have a career in Corporate Finance and wish to come back to India and assist the Government of India through consultancy or advisory services.
I have prepared my Statement of Purpose also, if required I will attach it.

Also advise, if January is too late to apply to LSE and Cambridge.
And do I really need to retake GMAT before applying as the score is less for LSE and Cambridge, or they make conditional offers on the basis of GMAT scores?
Moreover, if I retake gmat in january my application will be considered for the second round.
How should I go about it? Should I apply with 650 or should I retake gmat?
If there are any other schools in the same league, please advise which ones should I apply to.
As I have to come back to India, the recognition and standing the schools have in India is a major consideration for me.

Please please please help me out with this.....
Highly appreciate your time.
Thanks a lot.

Hi Purvi,

Thanks for writing in. Unfortunately my area of focus is only on MBA programs so I can't give an informed comment on Masters in Finance and Accounting programs.

I will note -- based on your questions -- that you always want to feel that you put your best application forward. For example, a great application in Round 3 trumps a good application in Round 2.

Best of luck!

Thanks a lot Daniel!
Great to hear from you.

Well, I have applied to Warwick and LSE(Finance and Accounting) with 650 score already.
And I will take your advice and retake GMAT in Jan and then apply for Cambridge and LSE (Finance).

Thanks a lot!!
