Profile Evaluation-710 (Q47 V41)-International Experience

by Redwall Tue Aug 30, 2011 5:59 am

Hi all,
Was wondering if someone could take a quick look at my profile and let me know if I have a shot at my target schools.

Here are my stats:

Background: 26 at matriculation, white, american, male
GMAT: 710 Q47(76%) V41(92%)--
GPA: 3.37 Liberal Arts Major at top 3 Ivy
Work Experience: Will have 3+ years at matriculation. All international experience working at local technology start-up in Beijing. A few different positions in business development, marketing and product management with promotions along the way. Lots of good experience doing work between China, Singapore and Japan.
Language: Professional fluency in Mandarin. Advanced-High on ACTFL standard (Lauder requires at least Advance-low)
Extras: Do lots of volunteer work with various education focused and social entrepreneurship non-profits in China.

My target schools are as follows:

Wharton-Lauder (China track)
INSEAD-SAIS Joint Degree
Stanford
Chicago MBA/IR Joint Degree
Tuck
MIT
Michigan

Any feedback you guys could provide would be greatly appreciated. I am a little worried that my quant score (47) is too low. I know some schools want to see a 80% and I am just a shade under that.

Thanks a lot!

Hi Redwall,

Thanks for writing in. Although you are under the 80-Quant mark, as you note it is just slightly under and I don't think that warrants a retake by itself. I think schools will react favorably to your unique international experience and extensive philanthropic work in China. While I don't have specific insights on the non-MBA portions of the joint programs, I think you have a competitive profile at the MBA programs you list. Stanford would potentially fall in the near-reach category, but you should still be able to get consideration there.

Best of luck,

Daniel Richards
