by sanjogmankar Sun Dec 11, 2011 11:49 pm

Hello,
I would really appreciate if you can review my profile and provide me with suggestions.
I am a 32 year old male born and brought up in India, now working in the US.

My experience details:
* 5 years of work experience (and still working) in one of the world’s best heavy engineering companies, as a product development engineer. Promoted once. This job is in the US Midwest.
* 3 years of full time work experience between BS and MS years, in India’s one of the best Automotive companies. Promoted once. This was a product support engineer job.
* Internship experience, both in India and in US, again in reputed mechanical engineering/automotive companies. (8 months each)

GMAT
* first attempt 660 (Q45, V35) AWA 5.0 ----- in Dec 2010
* second attempt 680 (Q45, V38) AWA 5.0 ------ in March 2011

Colleges attended
* Michigan Tech University | MS in Mechanical Engineering | GPA 3.95/4.0 | Graduated in May 2007
* Pune University, India | BS in Mechanical Engineering | Approx GPA 3.6/4.0 (we get percentage scores, and I scored more than 66%, which is considered a very good grade) | Graduated in Jun 2002

Extra Curricular achievements
* Cleared MENSA’s IQ test, and was an active MENSA member in the past
* I attend a local Toastmasters Club, have been a vice president of the club for two years, and recently received the competent communicator certificate.
* Coached engineering students during graduate studies
* Volunteered for a non governmental spiritual organization in India. Helped organize meditation workshops, and event management. (But this was more than 5 years in the past)

My Target Programs
* Chicago Booth
* Kellogg
* Stanford
* Duke

Post MBA goal
* Longer term: Vice president in an engineering, automotive, or related company. This job will need strong engineering, commercial and business skills.
* Shorter term: Try a stint in consulting and then move into management role in an engineering company.

Hi! You seem to have strong work experience, and I encourage you to highlight your accomplishments at work - not your responsibilities - as you pull together your applications. For the schools on your list, your GMAT is just on the bottom edge of the range that 80 percent of the incoming classes received. Given your background, you will be competing with other applicants with higher scores - many of which will be well into the 700s. You might want to consider adding some schools to your list that are outside of the top 15.

Best of luck,

Daniel Richards
