Hello Alex/Jeremy - I am looking to do a second MBA preferably 1 Year MBA program in Strategy...I completed my previous MBA when I was 24. I started when I was 22.... I moved from India and in order to get into a business job in US- I had to do a business degree....to get a business job...my earlier MBA program was a general program. I am looking to focus on Strategy and Finance..my case is that I need a 1 Year program just to focus on strategy...as a major...as I didnot have it earlier..

My profile

Age - 28 (Born in US and raised in 2 countries)
Education - Bachelor of Engineering from Top ten university in India - Ranked 4th in the university in my last year
MBA...(State University) - GPA: 3.95/4.0
Relevant years of experience - 5
Promotions - I got 2 promotions while working in a telecom firm...Ran a $100 M dollar telecom network..and revenue grew 300% in 3 years...Currently working in a top 4 strategy consulting firm...
GMAT: 680

Target Schools
Kellogg 1 Year MBA program - R2 (Jan 09)
Columbia Accelerated MBA program - R1 (April 09)

Reach Schools
Harvard -
Wharton

what are my chances ?? Will they buy my story that I have a need to study strategy...in a top school??

Please advise..
thanks

seems like everyone from india comes from "a top 3 university in India" or "the top school in my country"

"I am president of 5,600 clubs in India"

"I work for a telecoms company that grew from $1 to 300million dollars"

Stop talking yourselves up that much....if it were all true, why do you need an MBA from the US to get an entry level banking / consulting gig?

You're overrepresented from a group of liars / talkers...

get real.

You're going to have an extremely tough time getting into any top b-school (even the one-year programs) when you already have an MBA, especially if it's from a US school.

The thing is, an adcom will be extremely skeptical of your reasons for wanting a 2nd MBA, even if you think you're providing something compelling and sincere -- it comes down to the adcom having to take your word for it, and with enough other highly qualified applicants, they would rather take someone who they are less skeptical of. Put it this way. No matter what you say, the elephant in the room in your applications would be "I want a 2nd MBA for the brand so I can get a better job which I can't get with my first MBA". You simply can't get around that -- it's not that other applicants aren't looking to upgrade their resume or branding, but that they will cut those folks more slack than they will with you. You have an MBA - you should be well into post-MBA career. And if you're not, the adcom will be skeptical that you could do it with a top tier MBA. Again, I'm sure you have your story well thought out, but the adcom WILL be very skeptical of it.

Is it "possible" to get in when you already have an MBA? Technically, sure. Anything is possible. But it's highly unlikely.

I hate being negative, but the reality is you need to find another way to your career goals whatever that may be -- also, a lot of recruiters will question your judgment and competence if they see two MBA degrees on your resume - it's like completing high school twice.

There's lots of ways to get to your long-term goal. An MBA is just one of many.

You have to be kidding? Not to come down on you (the poster), but I agree with Alex. If you submit your CV with a second MBA when applying for a job submitting it to a head hunter will certainly assure that your CV will be tossed out and you my friend, will be black-balled.

Your question on this forum is mind numbing. You got a 680 on the GMAT, so you should know better.
My Advice to you is to not waste anymore time studying for the GMAT, writting essays, asking for recommendations, or waste any money on application fees.

My strategy for you is to start networking and actively look for work. This is not the type of economy to waste your time and money.
