Profile eval:Scored 680(q48 v35) which schools can I apply

by rameshsc18 Sun May 20, 2012 12:22 pm

Hi,
I belong to Indian Male working in IT field category :).

I just gave GMAT and scored 680(q48, v35)(am satisfied but not happy :)). I wanted to get my profile evaluated and wanted to check out if the current score is OK to get admitted in a MBA school. Am looking for schools that are specifically good for doing MBA in Operations management. I have thought about following schools
1) Tepper
2) MIT sloan
3) Ross
4) Tuck
5) ISB

My Profile:-
I have 8 yrs of experience in IT industry and for past 4 yrs am associated with one of the biggest software firms in the world(read Microsoft).

Domain wise, I started my career in telecom domain and then subsequently played important roles in Banking domain and currently I have around 4 yrs of experience in Supply chain management.

Role wise, I was given an opportunity to lead a team at an early stage of my career(when my exp was 2 yrs) and since then I have always been such positions.

I would like to know what should I concentrate on while writing essays(I really don't want to retake GMAT :)) and what does a MBA school look for while evaluating a profile.

Looking forward for your assistance. Please let me know if more information is needed for further evaluation of profile.

P.S:- Stacey and co. Thanks for sharing invaluable information on the forums.

regards,
Ramesh.

Hi! I know you don't want to retake the GMAT but you might want to reconsider giving it one more try. Given your background, you will be competing against a pool of candidates who tend to score very high on the GMAT. As a result, your 680 will look low compared with what they are able to achieve.

That being said, the AdCom isn't only going to assess you on your GMAT score. They will look at your profile holistically and see if you have strong credentials in every area. Start with your professional experiences - the AdCom will want to see that you have a lot of accomplishments at work, not just responsibilities. They will also want to see that you have leadership potential, and you can show them that you do by highlighting times when you took risks or initiative or made decisions. They will also want to see strong extra-curricular activities, which also show leadership, and stellar letters of recommendations.

Best of luck!
