Profile Eval - Public Sector Work Exp

Age : 29 Yrs - US Citizen (Naturalized)- East Indian Origin

Acads:

BS Electrical Engg - GPA 3.0/4 (Engg College in India)- Had to re-take some exams (Weak Point)
MS Electrical Engg - GPA 3.6/4 (State Univ in Nevada)- Awarded 100% Scholarship for research, was an RA also.
Many IT Certifications
Many IT Courses/Trainings

Work Exp:
6 Months in IT Services Company in India
1.5 Yrs -IT Consultant- Independent Consultant with Top IT consulting Firm (Contractor)(F 500 Clients)
5.0 Yrs -IT Development in US Government, Strategic implementation of various State of art systems (Spear headed various tech implementations ..good position with benefits, so took it!.)
Working on setting up my own business and designing a product (IT services)

Skilled in IS management, Business Intelligence, Analytics, Performance Management, ERP and CRM packages, analysis, strategic planning and innovative IT implementation exp.

Extra Curricular:
Regular speaker and presenter (papers) in many IT conferences.
Keen interest in finance industry, Stocks, investments, markets etc.
Active Bond industry knowledge and trader
Volunteer at Local Fire and Police Dept.
Volunteer to help food charity organizations

Have various profit making hobbies, like antique, metals, coins, stamps collections ( how relevant?)

Need for MBA:

Get into Senior IS management in IT /Strategic positions in IT consulting Industry (Big)
Product Development roles in top Companies (esp. Silicon valley)
Operations/Strategy management in Big Corporations
Or at least Strategic position in Government IT (least fav)

Just wanted to know how well is my profile suited to get into a good B-schools for an MBA in USA. I am mostly inquisitive about my work exp in public sector, weak under grad etc.. how does that fare?

1.What can I do to make my profile stronger ? (take additional courses in local univ? etc...?)
2.How to justify my bad under grad?

With this profile what range of scores should I shoot for in GMAT to get into very good B-Schools?

Hi! It sounds like you have some solid work experience and extra-curricular activities. What will be key to making your application into a strong one will be your ability to highlight how you are different from other applicants coming from similar backgrounds. I encourage you to talk about your professional accomplishments, not responsibilities, in both your essays and your resume. In addition, look for ways to showcase your leadership potential - and do that by talking abut times when you took risks or initiative or made decisions.

As for your weak undergraduate grades, the first way to help counter that is through a high GMAT score. In addition, look back at your undergrad transcript and see whether there was a particular semester or year that you did poorly. Then you could write an optional essay where you explain that you didn't do poorly all through college, but during a particular time. Lastly, you might want to consider taking a course or two now that focuses on quant subjects.
