Profile Eval Please

by jandre651 Fri Sep 18, 2009 7:40 pm

Below are my stats, looking to find out if top 10 programs are realistic. My big question is what is the impact of being an underrepresented minority (black male).

670 on gmat, 97th percentile verbal and only 49% quant (ran out of time and plan to retake the test to improve).

26 years old, 4 years work experince at a top commercial real estate investment management firm working as an investment analyst.

Graduated from UW Madison with a 3.0 gpa from the bus school.

Little to no community involvement.

Chances at Berkeley, NYU, Michigan, U of Chicago?

Thanks so much,
JB

Hi JB - Thanks for your inquiry.

While being part of an underrepresented population may make your application stand out, schools do not want to accept students who will struggle academically or who the schools feel will not fit in to the overall atmosphere.

With your GPA and GMAT combination (less the overall score than the Quant score) and no extracurricular activities, those schools are a bit of a stretch. Your work experience sounds solid and if you can pull up your GMAT the next time that will definitely help. If your goal is to to be sure that you're in business school next year, however, you may want to diversify your list a bit.

I hope that helps.
