Profile eval./Low GPA

by Dav.lee777 Thu Feb 03, 2011 1:39 pm

Currently Studying for GMAT.

GPA: 2.85 GPA San Diego State in Poli Sci

Work EXP: 3 years at a broker dealer(3 promotions), and one year at a Big 4 as a financial planner. And 1 year as an English teacher(I'm japanese and went to get in touch with my roots).

I'm looking to get into a Tier one school. And have already signed up for classes to create an alternative transcript.

1. I was wondering what kind of GMAT score should I make my goal.

2. Does the year of teaching English look bad? I wasn't laid off or fired, I made the decision to go myself.

3. If tier 1 is out of the questions what school should I target?

Hi Dav.lee,

Thanks for writing in.

1) I think you'll want to break 700 to have a legitimate shot at Tier 1, given your GPA.

2) It doesn't look bad on face value, but you can use your essays to explain your motivations for pursuing this, and share what you learned.

3) I don't know much about your goals and preferences so I can't comment on which other schools to pursue, but Tier I is likely going to be a reach for your. I'd suggest balancing your approach with a few Tier II schools that are good fits for your interests.

Good luck!
