Extracurricular activities:
When I’m not working 80 hours a week and studying for something (for example, the GMAT), I volunteer for Junior Achievement Rocky Mountains in their finance education program for elementary and middle-school-aged kids, teaching them all the things they aren’t taught in middle school and high school about financial responsibility. I’ve been doing it about a year now, and plan on continuing to do it until I’m unable to do so, as I love being a leader on both sides of the desk in the classroom.
Why an MBA?
I’m mostly interested in consultancy, as many of my previous employers would tell you that my greatest interest lies in improving results through organizational research, project creation, and implementation. In other words, I’m not so much interested in "running the show" but am extremely interested in (and very good at) coming up with ways to best run that show to ensure efficiency and accuracy. Throughout more or less every single day in every job I’ve ever had, it’s what I’ve tended to think about and put energy into, starting and completing projects intended to make work more effective, efficient, and accurate. Everyone all my life has always told me to speak to and act out my strengths, and I think an MBA at this point in my life and career is precisely where I should be headed, allowing me to harness and use those things I'm so good at doing.
Targets:
1. Notre Dame - Consulting track. Looking through about a hundred different programs, this is the standout for me in regards to value and philosophy, hands down
2. Vanderbilt - Strategy or Human and Organizational Performance track
3. Ohio State University - Strategy or Leadership and Organizational Behavior track
So, any words of wisdom, advice, and harsh dressings-down are absolutely welcome, as are alternative school recommendations.
Thanks in advance, everyone, and I’ll try to stay active hereabouts should any questions come my way!
