Profile building suggestions

by kaushik.pal.calling Thu May 10, 2012 12:16 am

Hello,

Please find below my profile summary:

1. GMAT 660 (will retake; target 720+)
2. Work experience: 8+ years in Indian IT industry. Achievements include:
A) Bid manager for project worth < $10 mil
B) Part of bid team which won projects worth more than $200 mil
C) Appreciation letter from customer CEO for leadership (managing team of ~70), project managament & transformation.
3. Extra-curricular: Nothing significant to showcase

I am targetting top B-Schools in Europe. Kindly me know how can I improve my profile. Also, I am planning to apply in 2014 (need time to build my profile) by which my work experience will be 10 years (age 33). Kindly let me know if this too late.

Thanks
Kaushik

Hi!! Great recommendations can help an MBA applicant, as can highlighting real accomplishments in your professional background. But there are a few things in your profile that I think are worth pointing out. If you decide to delay your application until 2014, that will put you on the older side of the applicant pool. That doesn't mean you won't get in for sure, but many schools tend to look for candidates who are slightly younger. You would have to clearly articulate to the AdCom why this is the right time for you to go to business school (vs. when you were in your late 20s). In addition, your GMAT score needs to reach at least 700 - and really higher. You are coming from an overrepresented demographic in business schools, with many Indians applying with GMAT scores well into the mid-700s. Lastly, having no extra-curricular activities can present a big hurdle. It's not to late to get involved now - look for things you are interested in doing and get involved asap.

Best of luck,

Rachel Beck
