Please help me in choosing a program

by sudipta.ju2006 Sat Oct 24, 2009 11:51 am

Hi,
I'm an Indian female (27 yrs).
GMAT score - 670 ( 47 Q, 35V, 5 AWA)
GPA :3.52 ( undergrad Electronics and Instrumentation Engg.)
work ex :4yrs IT exp in one of the leading organization.
My work involves design and development of a banking solution.
My work exp so far is good. I have got a few awards for exceptional performance, always have been rated among top 5% of total employees(around .1million) in organization wide performance appraisal and recieved a promotion in 2.8yrs, well above dept average of 4 yrs.
community involvement and extra curricular - strong
area of interest - investment banking/ corporate finance
Since my GMAT score is not very strong and i need financial aid from university to attend a program, can you please suggest me a few programs where i can be competitive?

Thanks in advance.

Hi -

It is hard to suggest schools without knowing a bit more about your preferences, but it sounds like you should be targeting schools whose GMAT averages are slightly above or in line with your score. i.e. top tier schools where averages tend to be north of 700 would probably be a stretch given your GMAT score.

A couple of things as it relates to your profile, it sounds as though you are looking to make a career switch, so you should make sure to articulate how you have prepared for that switch in terms of the applicable skills from your current position as well as any steps you have taken personally to familiarize yourself with the financial industry (i.e. networking, informational interviews, etc). I would also focus on the professional and community experiences that differentiate you from the pool of Indian engineering candidates.

I hope this helps.
Best,
Erin
