Please evaluate my profile

by varun83singh Wed Jan 20, 2010 3:20 pm

Hi,

I am a 26 years old Indian Male.
My Gmat score is 650(v28, q49)and AWA 4.

My profile is as under:

a)Total 2 years work-ex (would be 2.5 years at the time of joining)
in IT industry(Cognizant Technology Solutions a Fortune 1000 company).

b) Was in IT development for 6 months then shifted to IT infrastructure service management.

c)Bachalor of Engineering(4 year) in Instrumentation Technology with a GPA of 3.45.

d)8 year old association with an NGO

I am thinking whether i should take gmat again and raise my score to near 700 to have a chance in top 20-25 schools.

If i apply now it will be the last round, so should i retake the test or i should go with my present score?

Please tell me in which all colleges i should apply, and if i have to retake the test ,then till when should i finish it so as to be able to apply in the last round of 2010 august session.

I'm looking for colleges in USA only.

Thanks,
Varun

Thank you for your question.

I would encourage you to research the schools that meet your needs in terms of your personal and professional interests. Every school is different so I cannot provide you with a list of schools to apply to. You can start with the BusinessWeek rankings and create a short list of programs. Once you do that, you should compare your 650 GMAT score to the average GMAT scores of those schools. If you are below the average, you will likely be at a disadvantage. It looks like your verbal score is very low. Is there a reason for that? Are your English skills/communication skills strong? If so, this is something you can address in the optional essay.

As for application rounds, schools outside of the top 20-25 are not as competitive in the final round.

Best of luck with the application process!
