Please evaluate my profile

Hi,

It will be great if you can provide me some feedback.

US Citizen, Indian descent, 29 yr's
GMAT: 700 (Q:49, V:36)
Bachelors - B.E. in Electronics/Electrical Engineering from one of top 10 schools in India
GPA - 8.3/10
Masters - MS in Electrical Engineering (USC)
GPA - 3.7/4

Experience - 4.5+ yrs in US in semiconductor company.
- Role is technical but require customer interaction on day to day basis.
- Have represented/led my team(6 people) among a group of larger audience for various projects multiple times.
- I represented my team in a project where we saved almost 3 months of time to market for our product saving around $200 million considering the product was estimated to make $1 billion within 1st year. I was awarded "Employee of the Quarter award for my efforts"
- Others project includes developing strategies and implementing s/w which reduced customer complaints by around 60%.
- Was member of the team to be awarded "Attateam - kindaa like best team of quarter" award twice.
- Got 2 promotions in last 4 years.

Other minor Expr in US:
1. Worked in Casino as a cashier for 8 months, was handling around $25 million a day.
- Also, worked with the management to create mathematics exam which needs to be cleared for getting the job.
- Was Employee of the month

2. FSR for 6 months at a bank. Was awarded for being among the top 10 FSR's among all the branches.

EC's
1. Manager/player from last 4 years of a cricket team (around 20 members). We participate in a year-round tournament where around 70 teams participate.
- Responsible for funds collection, organizing team practice sessions etc
2. Certified wind surfer. Trained and motivated colleagues for windsurfing. Organized various field events at work.
3. One of the key members of "Non profit" initiative to help bright students from poor background to go to the college in India.
4. Learning Espanol

I want to go for management consulting post MBA.

Schools I'm targeting: Chicago Booth, UCLA, Ross, Cornell, Yale, Kelloggs, Haas

Please let me know if you think I 've a chance at above schools or they all seems like a stretch.

Hi aryan,

Thanks for writing in. It seems that you have some potentially interesting points to discuss in your application, and that you've had a lot of success in your career to date. The issue you face is breaking out of the "Indian male engineer" cohort, and also you're trending a bit on the older side of the applicant pool. The key to that first part is differentiation -- what makes you stand out from candidates with similar backgrounds. Besides your work achievement, I think you could talk about your work in the casino, your cricket team management and the nonprofit initiative. You want to be able to show leadership both inside and outside of work.

In regards to age, I don't think it will be a very strong factor against you, but I suggest you emphasize why it's critical you go to business school now, at this juncture in your career.
