~Please evaluate my admissions profile~

by willcherr Thu Jun 23, 2011 12:41 am

Thanks in advance-
Undergrad: 3.5 GPA, BS Economics from u of Delaware '07
Work: Research and due diligence on hedge funds for large inv consulting firm
GMAT: 680 (Took in '08, should i re-take, would likely be able to improve but am worried it may be a waste of time if only by 20-40 pts)
I would like to stay in finance, but perhaps get on the management side (CFO type role) or perform security analysis for a fund.

Do not want to go to west coast schools- current short list includes booth, hbs, kellogg, darden, cornell, UNC, and Yale

Am I competitive and would you recommend any other schools with finance/management themes?

Hi Bill,

Thanks for writing in. At the schools you listed, an extra 40 points would likely make you a different tier of candidate and could give you better consideration at all of those schools. Your college academics seem strong but it's tough to say if you're competitive -- beyond academics -- without knowing more about your profile. Do you have good leadership experience at work? Are you involved in the extracurriculars at all?

Lastly, make sure you think through your goal statement more. Schools will want to hear a plan with more conviction that shows you've thought through why their program is a good match for you.

Good luck!
