Performance in Verbal Score in Practice Tests

by tusharkhatri18 Tue Apr 29, 2014 5:45 am

Hi to all,
I want to share a thing and have suggestion from you all. From the past three months, I am consistently practicing for GMAT. However, as compared to the first sample test which I gave before starting my preparation, my quant score has improved but verbal not. Also, whenever I practice from OG, maximum times I get my answers correct for verbal. But in practice test, my answers are becoming wrong. Also, due to this, my motivation level is getting decreased and that I really don't want. Please tell me how to improve myself. The latest I scored in one of the MGMAT practice test in verbal is 18. I am studying CR from OG and Powerscore CR. Similarly, SC from OG and RC from Aristotle RC 99. Also, please tell me how to increase my speed in test, as always I run out of time. In 3 practice tests, I was able to attempt only 30-33 questions in 75 minutes.

A big part of the problem is your timing - the test will chop off approximately 3 percentile points per question that you don't answer. It will just subtract all those points straight from your score!

So, clearly, we've got to fix the timing. That starts with your mindset. Read this:
https://www.manhattangmat.com/blog/inde ... lly-tests/

Then start a post that explains to me why you need to start letting go on some questions so that you can finish the test.

Next, you can't effectively study SC (or any of these) just from OG. You practice questions, but you first need to study the actual rules, techniques, etc from a source that teaches you how to take the test. The OG is great practice, but it does not teach you how to take the test.

Read this:
https://www.manhattangmat.com/blog/inde ... our-score/

And this:
http://www.manhattangmat.com/blog/index ... -the-gmat/

Now that you have read all of that, finish your post to me and tell me how you need to change the way you've been studying based on what you read.

Finally, if you would like, you can use the below to analyze your most recent MGMAT CAT (this should take you a minimum of 1 hour):
https://www.manhattangmat.com/blog/inde ... ts-part-1/

Figure out your strengths and weaknesses as well as what you think you should do based on that analysis (and the articles that you read). Then come back here and tell us; we'll tell you whether we agree and advise you further.

(Note: do share an analysis with us, not just the raw data. Part of getting better is developing your ability to analyze your results - figure out what they mean and what you think you should do about them!)
