Parallelism

by Eddie Gutia Sat Aug 02, 2014 9:13 pm

Hi,

Below is the sentence from chapter 4 MGMAT SC:

The employees were upset by the company's low pay, poor working conditions, and that they did not have enough outlets for their creativity.

Can the above sentence be corrected as below?

The employees were upset by the company's low pay, and poor working conditions, and that they did not have enough outlets for their creativity.

Thanks,
Aditya

On further analysis, I think the sentence I proposed above is incorrect. However, the below one should be correct. Can you please confirm?

The employees were upset that the company provides low pay and poor working conditions, and that they did not have enough outlets for their creativity.

Thanks,
Aditya

Assuming that these observations are simultaneous, no.
You need "provides"/"do", or else "provided"/"did".

If the first and second observations are actually intended to be, respectively, in the present and in the past, then sure. But, absent a huge chunk of additional context, that doesn't seem reasonable.

By the way, this is the wrong folder for your question. (I already answered it; oh well.)

From now on, please post your questions in the appropriate folder(s). Thanks in advance.
