Options- 740 47V 46Q

by Yoni Sat Jun 02, 2012 9:24 pm

Hi,

I would appreciate some input as to my current situation.

I had done the GMAT about 3 days ago scored 740 (47V 46Q).

Some details about me:

-I've finished law school, 3-4 years ago,at Tel Aviv university (which in Israel where I live is probably the best place and hardest to get into). My grades were about average within my class (about 80 from a 100 scale) though if some one looks I had a very bad 1st year and continued improving along the way (to about a 90 in my last year).

-I have then went to do my Internship in the 3rd largest law firm in Israel which is one of the most highly regarded for commercial law (it's a one year internship).

-After I finished my internship I studied and passed the Israeli Bar test.

-Then I've decided to change fields and for the last 2 years or so I've been managing a small company and some family business that deal with the management of commercial and residential properties and development.

- Considering what you find relevant within the given information, what do you think my chances are of getting into a top b-school in Europe. Should I retake the GMAT my quant part was significantly lower than it could be, somehow I got stressed and it went very badly but that is something that can happen again and I would prefer to do the test only if that's likely to be significant. Your advice as to schools which are more likely to be interested in my application would be very welcome (in Europe I am probably more interested in Cambridge & Oxford. Other suggestions would be welcome *tuition would be tough so it would be very helpful if any school is more likely to give scholarships).

Thank You Very Much and sorry if I tired you with to much information,

Yoni

Hi! To start, I think your quant score is perfectly fine where it is. Given that you don't come from a quant background, where you are is very strong. I think your background sounds interesting. I like that you've had some experience outside of the law managing a company. What I see as your challenge is explaining to the AdCom why you need an MBA and why now. What will change in your career with an MBA degree? Really consider that as you pull together your applications.

As for what schools give scholarships, that I not something that I have information on. You will have to look at each schools Web site for that.

Best of luck,

Rachel Beck

Hi Rachel,

Thank you very much for your reply. From what I gather, you believe that the schools I mentioned (LBS, IMD, Insead, Imperial, Oxford and Cambridge) are within shooting distance (so to speak).
Your help with this was very helpful for me as I had no way of evaluating my candidacy for such highly regarded schools (mostly I've been concerned of my average grades having a bad impact- though they stem from a respectable institution and faculty a thing I would like to assume, matters). If you have any other suggestions they would be very welcome (whether with regards to the grades or anything else).

Thank You Very Very Much,

Yoni
