Online course for student in Australia

by askhoman4 Thu Nov 05, 2009 12:02 pm

To Manhattan Online Course staff,

I'm interested in taking part in your first free online class as part of the Live Online Fall L 2009 course on 14 Nov. I am based in Australia, so the timing of this particular course is the only one that suits me (it'll be 6am Sunday morning here, vs the other courses which take place at 9am on weekdays).

Questions:
1. Let's say after the first class, I'd like to register for the rest of the course. How long will the delivery of the material (books, stopwatch, etc) to Melbourne, Australia take? Will you guys be using couriers such as Fedex/DHL to get the materials to me asap?
I will hate to receive them really late, i.e. after the 2nd class on 21 Nov.

2. I've reviewed your online course syllabus. Will students need to complete the homework prior or after a particular session? For example, for session 1, should I complete the Full length practice exam before or after 14 Nov?

3. I assume the delivery cost is included in the total online course package?

4. I already have the OG11, Quant Review, Verbal Review, and all 3rd edition Manhattan Strategy Guides. Will these be sufficient for the course? If so, is there a possibility of getting the cost slashed by not including the OG12, QR 2nd ed, VR 2nd ed, and 4th ed Manhattan SGs in the package?

Hi there!

Thanks for your interest in our courses!

As for your questions:
1/3. In terms of delivery, if you sign up after the first course, we will do our best to have your materials shipped by your second course. For international shipping, we'd be shipping international priority, which takes 5-7 days, so you should get them by your second course, but we cannot guarantee it, because we would ship the books out on Monday morning. The shipping costs are indeed included in the cost of the course.

2. In terms of the course syllabus, yes, you would want to complete the work by the session listed. So you should try to take your first CAT exam before your first class. However, this is flexible, and as long as you take the exam by your second class you should be fine.

4. There are some differences between our fourth editions/the OG 12th edition and our 3rd editions/the OG 11th edition. You can read about exactly what has changed here: http://www.manhattangmat.com/gmat-official-guides.cfm Since the changes between our third and fourth editions are minimal, you can certainly choose to use our older books for the course, as this would not be too much of a disadvantage for you. Since the cost of the books is included in the course, we would credit you the cost of your books to the course itself. If you would like to do this, you will have to register for the course over the phone at 212-721-7400 so we can give you the appropriate book credits.
