One Week Before Test

by JM Wed May 02, 2007 3:21 pm

It is one week before my Test Date. I am looking for some expert advice.

Where should I place most of my emphasis for this week.

I know my strengths and weeknesses.

Strengths - Verbal (I am not great at Sentence Correction)

Weaknesses - Quantitative - specifically: inequalities, geometry and probability.

I finish the Verbal section on time but am always pressed for time with Quatitative.

Do you suggest that I spend most of the time plowing through math questions, taking practice tests, just math practice tests, or focus on only weakness.

In advance, I appreciate your time and expert opinion.

JM,

My advice would be to study, learn, & memorise the rules for Geometry. I think Geometry is an area you can pick up some points if you memorise the formulas, and the formulas are short and not too difficult. Inequalities and probability will take more time to master, at least in my opinion.

If you are pressed for time finishing quant, I would just guess the answers for any reasonably difficult inequality/probability question and use the time saved towards questions you are less weak at, such as number property questions.

I am by no means an expert, but I hope my advice helps.

Good luck on the test!

At this stage of the game, it is important to spend more time REVIEWING your concerns rather than plowing through new material. I would suggest to return to your previous work and thoroughly dissect the particular problem types that are still giving you difficulty. Focus not only on content, but also on the most effective and efficient STRATEGIES to approach these problems. (the "Not Only...But Also" idiom was intentionally included. Don't forget about those Sentence Correction idioms :D )

If you have the time, it might be worthwhile to take one final practice CAT a few days before your official GMAT, but again, be sure to give yourself ample time to review your work.

Hope this helps!
