Do the Quants problems in OG guide represent the question complexity on the real exam ?

will it suffice for someone with decent math background to rely on in preparing for the GMAT ?

Sankar, the answer to your question is yes and no. As the OG is written by the makers of the Official GMAT, the questions in the OG are extremely representative of the questions on the actual test. However, the OG (obviously!) is not adaptive - in other words, the OG presents numerous problems ranging in difficulty from extremely simply to quite complex (200 - 800 level questions). You Official GMAT experience will not do so, as the computer will relatively quickly zero in on your "ability level" and provide you questions within a range of that level. Thus, a high scorer on the GMAT will see primarily 650+ problems throughout the entire Official GMAT (provided that he/she does not make careless errors), yet such problems comprise only a small portion of the practice problems in the OG.

Though fundamentals are very important, I suggest that you supplement your OG studies with additional difficult problems (such as those in our MGMAT strategy guides and MGMAT CAT practice tests). Shoring up your fundamentals and then applying these fundamentals to more complex and/or trickly problem types will definitely enhance your practice (and, we hope, your score!)
