I just wonder whether the construction of "...not only...,but..." is incorrect.

it has definitely been used on at least one official gmatprep question, as witnessed in the following thread:

i would personally consider the construction better with 'but also' (instead of just 'but'), but consider yourself warned that the alternative you're asking about is also considered acceptable (at least in some cases).
