Negative Integers as Multiples or Factors

Hi,

can a negative integer be a multiple or a factor of another integer.

For example:
1) Is -8 a multiple of 4?
2) Is -4 or factor of 8?

*Technically* a negative integer could be the multiple of another integer. -8 is in fact a multiple of 4. However, for GMAT purposes, I have never seen an official question that used negative multiples. The GMAT usually covers this base by stating "the first five positive multiples of 4" . . . etc.

As far as factors, only worry about the positive factors of a number, unless the number itself is negative. However, I can't remember seeing a question like that.

The takeaway: you almost certainly do not need to worry about all of this. :-)
