Need some advice please

by ajnagdev Fri Oct 30, 2009 7:56 pm

I recently sat for the GMAT and received a dissapointing score of 640. I was shocked since I averaged around 700 in my previous practice exam. I am trying to decide if I should re-take the exam or focus on my applications. I realize top-10 schools are most likely out of reach, but would like to get admitted to USC Marshall. I know I am at the lower end of the 80% range and wondering if I should take the exam in a month knowing I could score at least a 680. Here is a little more info about my situation.

GMAT 640
GPA 3.4
Work Experience: 4.5 years at PriceWaterhouseCoopers as a Senior Associate.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Hi -

If you have only taken the test once and are truly confident in your ability to improve your score considerably, then I probably would suggest a retake given that you are at the lower end of the range. Taking the test also shows that you are committed to the process.

With that said, if you aren't as comfortable with your ability to improve or don't believe you can retake the test and apply by R2, then you could consider applying with your current score.

Best,
Erin
