Need help with GMAT prep strategies

by nutthasij Sun Jun 17, 2012 9:05 am

Hi. I just purchased MGMAT set of 10 and do my diagnostic test.

I try GMATPrep software from MBA.com and get 450 (quant36/verbal17)

My weakest area in quant is Data Sufficiency.

I want to get 700+. I know it's long way to go. Can you give me some advice regarding GMAT?

How to study? What material should I use?

PS. I'm a recent grad and won't be pursue MBA in a few years so I have a lot of times to prepare for GMAT.

Edited: Just took Basic Math Diagnostic and here's the result
But I also think I'm weak in harder geometry questions. Because I forget a lot of formula. and sometimes in algebra I use substitute to find the answer instead of try to solve the equation. Do you think I still need Foundations of GMAT Math.

I don't think you need Foundations, no - that's only the lower-level stuff and you appear to be fine there. You can start with the regular books.

That's fine - that's not a problem. This is not a school test - HOW you get to the answer doesn't matter. They don't look at your work. You want to use whatever method you think is easiest / most efficient.

You have a basic choice to make: would you like to work on your own or would you like to join a class (or work with a tutor)?

If you study on your own, here's how to set up your study plan and get going:

If you decide to take a class, follow the syllabus that comes with the class.

Feel free to come back here with any questions! :)
