Stick to 5 - 6 schools max.

I know the uncertainty of getting in can get folks like you to take a scattershot or "whatever sticks" approach in a fit of desperation, but you end up weakening each application because you'd dilute your efforts across way too many schools, and you'll p*ss off your recommenders for having to submit so many rec letters.

Columbia will likely be a stretch for you (but worth the hail mary), and the other schools should be in range for you so long as you put together a strong application.

I am visiting with my references this week. Any advice on how to prepare them for the task at hand?

Thanks for the input.
