MS vs. MBA

by elise.galanto Thu Mar 12, 2009 4:46 pm

I am considering further education in entrepreneurship. I am wondering which would be more beneficial, MBA vs. MS.

What are the pros and cons for for either field of study?

I am looking to build a solid network, gain an education, and prepare myself to start my own business when I graduate.

I appreciate any advice. Thank you.

Thank you for your inquiry.

An MS and an MBA offer very different skills. I think that you need to consider whether you want to approach entrepreneurship from a technical or management perspective. Do you want to be the innovator or the individual who commercializes the innovation and grows the company around the innovation? If you would prefer the former, then the MS is probably better for you; if you would prefer the latter, then the MBA is better. Of course, you could always do both -- one after the other or together.

Sincerely,
