Minivans carry as many as seven passengers, and compared

by PunyataA53 Sun Jan 18, 2015 6:37 am

Question from GMAT Prep : Different version. I'm not able to paste screenshot.

Minivans carry as many as seven passengers, and compared with sport utility vehicles, most cost less, get better gas mileage, and make it easy for passengers to get in and out, and have a smoother, more car-like ride.

A. and make it easy for passengers to get in and out
B. and allow passengers to get in and out easily
C. and allow passengers to get in and out more easily
D. make it easier for passengers when getting in and out
E. allow passengers to get in and out more easily

I chose D.Why is it wrong?

"when __ing" always means that the subject is doing the "__ing" action.

e.g., Laura talked to Pete while driving ––> laura, not pete, was driving. (we don't know what pete was doing.)

so, "...when getting in and out" implies that minivans (the subject) are trying to get in and out of things.
