MBA questions

by leisuresoul.avi Wed Oct 27, 2010 5:40 am

Hi pHOREN, I am a 3rd year student of engineering and planning to do MBA without experience. My profile is
CGPA (approx)- 3.5-3.6
GMAT- yet to give
I am working with a carbon consultancy company in there management related fields as a intern first and then as a volunteer to help my career go ahead. Now in few months i.e. till January I am starting my own company to analyze carbon credits in Nagpur with collabration with a european company(name cannot be disclosed)

Doing a technical project(civil engineering related) with MIT,USA. Also Having lot of event organizing exp..
Certificate of appreciation for giving Ministry of defence ideas related to training of there just entered officers.

I want to do MBA just after my B.TECH as I feel that my experience with Carbon consultancy company and now starting my own is worth more than a job. I feel I have a experience which can help me acheive a MBA .

I want to ask that should I apply for MBA programs outside considering that they might get impressed by my profile or else should I go for IESE YTP or Harvards 2+2 or LBS MiM programs?

Secondly, Indian MBA's low on ranking can also be considered because they don't require any experience. But my profile is good enough for outside with lots of initiative also. So, please suggest me the right mba.

Hi leisuresoul,

Thanks for writing in. I'm not sure I follow your post completely -- I believe you are debating whether to pursue an MBA within your current program or to apply for other schools as well.

While I can't give you a recommendation on exactly which schools you should apply to -- especially since I don't know about your post-MBA goals and other requirements -- it sounds like you may want to pursue the program that is already available in your school. Some schools will look at students with no work experience, but those are still a small part of the candidate pool. Also without having taken the GMAT it's difficult to say which other programs you may be competitive at.

Hope this helps and good luck!

Hi Teena,

With no work experience you need to tell a very compelling story as to why schools should accept you now, rather than waiting a few years for you to gain more experience. I am not familiar with all the schools you list but overall that will be a hurdle you'll need to overcome.

Good luck!

Best of luck,
