Hi phillip.yoo,
Thanks for writing in. It's always an advantage to know your plan a few years in advance and adjust your activities accordingly. You also have a clear goal of what you want to achieve, which will be helpful in explaining your post-MBA plans.
An MS in Accounting is unlikely to be viewed negatively; it fits in your story well as you need these skills to do your current work. But then you will want to explain in your essays which skills you do not already have that an MBA offers, and how each school can help you learn those skills. A life insurance designation is unlikely to have a material impact on your candidacy either way.
Good leadership experience can be from your job or in your extracurriculars. In your job, this could mean leading a team, persuading a superior to make a tough decision in your favor, managing conflict or effectively dealing with failure. Outside of work, it can mean showing initiative in your community, taking an active role in a nonprofit, or dedicating yourself to a passion.
During these next two years, you can keep a running list of good leadership situations you find yourself in so that you can easily refer to them when you need to write your essays.
You can also use this head start to get to know your target schools really well. Ask the admissions office to put you in touch with students and alumni with similar interests, take an official visit, and read as much literature as you can find to help you demonstrate your interest in the school and why you're a good fit.
Best of luck,
Daniel Richards
