Manhattan GMAT Verbal Study Guide - SC Question No. 14

by piyush Thu Oct 11, 2007 11:36 pm

Because the economic cycle in the US changes little during its 20 year interval between recessing, it is fairly easy for analysts to predict analogous trends in the stock market.

(A) between recessing
(B) of recessing
(C) between its recessions
(D) of its recessions
(E) as it recesses

I chose (B). However the answer choice is (C). I feel that choice (C) would have been more appropriate if the questions read "during the 20 year interval" instead of "during its 20 year interval".

"During its 20 year interval between its recessions" seems odd to me. Can you please explain?

Thanks,

Yeah, it should definitely say 'the'.

Where is this from again? Is it from one of the Strategy Guides?

Hi Ron,

Sorry for the late reply. The question and the other ones I posted (No. 12, 14 and 18) are actually from the Manhattan Review sentence correction verbal guide and not Manhattan GMAT. I didn't realise that Manhattan Review is different from Manhattan GMAT, until a few days back, when a friend of mine who is part of your classroom courses denied any knowledge of such study material. When I carefully looked at the book I realised that it is from a different organization. Sorry about the confusion.

Thanks,

Piyush

OK. Well, I think this question has been resolved satisfactorily.

I think it's OK to post questions from the Manhattan Review - at least, they haven't told us not to yet. :D AFAIK, the only company that has expressly prohibited us from addressing its questions on these forums is Kaplan.
