Low Maths score in GMAT

by sakya_293 Tue Dec 07, 2010 1:55 pm

Hi,

I wrote GMAT today and got a score of 680 (M:43,V,41). I have a CGPA of 2.9 (I have 72.9% and I calculated it as 72.9/100*4 to arrive to this number, but, the topper in the class had around 85%). I am working in one of the big fours for last 4 years in their consulting and analytics domain in US, UK, India and Bangladesh. I have five and half years of experience overall (technology realted).
I am gunning to get into LBS, Insead or IE for the 2011 Sep/2012 Jan courses. Is there a possibility for me getting through this?

Hi Sakya,

Thanks for writing in. While your overall score would likely make you borderline-competitive at those schools, the breakdown is concerning, especially the quant score, given your background. Is there any chance of taking the test again and raising that quant score? If not you'll want to highlight other relevant analytical experience you have from your college and professional work.

While it certainly is possible to get through this weakness, you'll want to focus on why you are seeking admission to these schools and how it impacts your overall career plan (from past to present to post-MBA). Without these differentiation points I think it will be a challenge to the admissions officers' attention at these schools.

Good luck!
