Low GMAT score

by Rolodex Sun Aug 17, 2008 9:18 pm

Dear Sir/Madam,

Yesterday I took the GMAT and totally bombed it. I got only a 630 (Q43, V34), which was totally unexpected. Quant is my weakness on the GMAT and on all the practice exmas (MGMAT CAT"S and GMATPREP) I had been scoring between 40 and 45, however, on verbal I was always scoring above 40 (aroudn 90-95 percentile).

My question is should I still apply to my target schools. I am applying for the dual segree MBA/MPH program and my target school sare Columbia, Michigan, MIT, and Berkley. I have spoken to studnets from these programs and the program directors and have received very positive feedback from all of them. I am particularly interested in the healthcare sector and have excellent work expereince, including international experience, in the pharmaceutical indutry. All of these folks told me that I would bring very different perspectives to the program and strongly suggested that I apply for R1.

Unfortuantely, my GMAT score is big disadvantage to my application. Even though the range of GMAT scres of students admitted for the class of 2010 is 630-800 in all the top programs I was wondering what my chances of acceptance would be with a 630.

Iwould really appreciate any input from you on what my next step should be - frankly now I am so dishertened that I am not sure even if it is worth applying.

Thanks.

Your GMAT score certainly will be a significant handicap, but if you really want to attend these programs, apply anyways. Your chances are zero if you don't bother applying at all
