Low GMAT Quantitative Score

by Ale Thu Aug 21, 2008 1:06 pm

Hi,

I scored 700 on the GMAT but with a low quant (70%). I am a Latin American prospective student with a background in Industrial Engineering (graduated in top 20% of my class) and currently I work as a Transfer Pricing Analyst at a Big4(lots of number crounching!).

I have been working hard in writting great essays and I am confident my bosses will provide me with good recommendations.

However, I am afraid that the adcomm will not find enough evidence of my quant skills in my background and current job. Am I worrying too much?

Tks!

btw, I am applying to H/S/W/K

It will raise an eyebrow or two, but not to the point where it will make-or-break your candidacy.

If you're focused on getting the apps in by the Round 1 deadlines, then the practical thing is to simply focus on your applications (you may just want to make a quick 1-2 sentence acknowledgement in an optional essay that the quant GMAT isn't reflective of your true abilities). Even though your quant isn't great, you have a quant background so it shouldn't be a huge concern.
