Long Term Goals

by Guest Tue Jul 15, 2008 4:32 pm

How do b-schools view long term goals? Given it's hard to know what you want to be doing say 10+ years down the road.

I only ask this because I have a very clear sense of what I want to do immediately after b-school. I want to transition out of ibanking and into a corporate development role a large consumer company/ retailer.

I'm concerned about the follow up what are my long term goals. I have no idea where I want to be. I figure I'd want to be in the same place just higher up the ladder. How would an admissions officer view that answer?

In general do they put a lot of weight on the long term question?

It's not really about "short-term" or "long-term" goals, but about an overall career plan that you have for yourself. If you're not clear about what you want down the road, it suggests that you lack vision (which then infers that you are more of a follower or a short-term opportunist, instead of someone who is driven by their values towards something they really want).
