Last Two Weeks - Any suggestions in the key final days

by Mihir Sahu Sun Jul 20, 2008 3:54 pm

I have exactly two weeks for exams. I have taken the two weeks off to competely focus on GMAT.
I have few Queries:
1. When should I take the final prep test before the exams ?
2. What should I do in the last two days of preparation ?
3. Considering my Quant, CR to be okay- RC bit speed required, and SC not bad-but not very confident, what should be stratergy in the last few days.
4. I am planning to take practice test very alternate day(including AWA), to spot weak areas and work on it for the two day(not worried about score).Does it sound okay ?Thanks
Regards

Final Verbal Recommendations

I'm very sorry, it looks like we have missed your deadline. Bear with us, as we are working hard to reduce our backlog of posts. I'll go ahead and answer, as others are likely to benefit.

Also, this would be better answered in the General Questions folder, so I will move this thread there.

1. When should I take the final prep test before the exams?
I recommend against taking a practice exam in the days before the real thing (fatigue, paranoia, etc.) Maybe a week before seems reasonable to me.

2. What should I do in the last two days of preparation?
Polish your strong areas, and stop worrying about your weaknesses. Do a final analysis of your CAT data, as a final reminder of your timing and guessing strategies.

3. Considering my Quant, CR to be okay- RC bit speed required, and SC not bad-but not very confident, what should be strategy in the last few days.
--Do some Quant and CR problems (your strengths) to get your juices flowing and build confidence.
--Build confidence in SC by naming all the splits and all the reasons the 4 wrong answers are wrong (don't need to time this exercise).

4. I am planning to take practice test very alternate day(including AWA), to spot weak areas and work on it for the two day(not worried about score).
As my colleague Jon Winawer likes to say, "You don't make a hog heavier by weighing it." If you have taken 3 practice exams in the last 2 months, you have enough data already. Your time would be better spent diving into the weak areas now. Also, a test every other day allows very little time for "digesting" and reviewing the results in between. Finally, you don't need to practice the AWA essay every time, in my opinion.
