Just got back from the GMAT test center - 720 (Q: 49, V :40)

by sarathsasikumar Sat Apr 17, 2010 3:29 pm

Hi All,

Took my GMAT today and scored 720 (Q: 49, V :40). I took my final practice test (GMAT Prep 2)last week and scored 720.

Here are my practice test scores :

GMAT Prep 1 : 670 (3 months ago)
GMAT Prep 1 (Retake) : 730 (1 month ago)
MGMAT CAT 1 : 620
MGMAT CAT 2 : 690
MGMAT CAT 3 : 690
MGMAT CAT 4 : 720
MGMAT CAT 5 : 680
GMAT Prep 2 : 720 (1 week ago)

Real GMAT 720 (Q: 49, V :40) (Today)

The Quant was easier than the MGMAT CAT but verbal was of almost the same level of difficulty.

Wishing you all the best.

Neer,

When it comes to preparing for Verbal, I don't think there is any other course out there that beats MGMAT. MGMAT verbal is by far the best. I went through the SC, CR and RC guides cover to cover twice. It helped me immensely. when I started off taking practice tests, my verbal scores were very bad. MGMAT helped me pull up my verbal scores. That being said, let me also add that the SC questions I encountered during the actual GMAT were completely different from anything I had seen in the MGMAT guides, CATs or the OG. OG and MGMAT are a must, but the real GMAT asked a lot more...I don't know what you can do about it.
I am an Engineer and hence my Quant scores were good to begin with, but still taking regular practise tests helped me immensely. It is not about whether you can answer the questions, rather about whether you can answer it in about two minutes or less. The ticking clock adds to the pressure. So, take practise tests...as many as you can.

Neer,

For math, check out www.4GMAT.com. They have some advanced math stuff. I also bought an old copy of Kaplan-800 (2005 copy, bought a used copy from amazon for about $2). It has some tough reading comprehensions.

Wish you all the best.

Neer,
I would suggest that you go through MGMAT SC, OG and OG Verbal review for SC. I went through them twice, but still found many tough SC questions on the real GMAT. I have heard from others too that SC is getting tougher on the real GMAT. I don't know about any other resources that could help you. The three books I've mentioned here will help you build a strong foundation. You need to go out and explore to see what you can build on top of it. Once you do that, please come here and post your findings so that others can learn from your experience.
Wish you all the best. Do remember to come here and post your GMAT score. I'll be watching :-). Good Luck.
Thanks,
Sarath
