Inequality sign

by JbhB682 Thu Jan 09, 2020 11:06 pm

Hi --

If rate > 70 km/hr and time is < 3 hours

is distance > 210 km
or
is distance < 210 km

Just wondering -- in d = r * t equation -- if rate has one direction for inequality and time has another opposite direction

what is the resulting direction of the distance ?

It is based off of a question i attempted so just wondering :)

Thank you !!

For problems rates I strongly advise you to not to lose touch with your common sense understanding, even if you're going to use some formulas or tables. In the example you gave me, you said that the speed is more than 70 km/hr. So think simply: it could be 100 km/hr, or it could be 1000 km/hr or even faster. However, the time is less than 3 hours, so that it could be 2 hours, or 1 hour or even no time at all. So it looks like the distance traveled could be...anything!
