Inequality Rules - Can we multiply x>5 , y>5

by rockrock Mon Jul 26, 2010 4:42 pm

From the MGMAT EIV Flashcards, #21.

The question is whether this statement is sufficient:

xy<25
1) x and y are <25.

The answer is that it's not sufficient since both x and y can be negative.

The flashcard then asks:
Can we multiply x>5 and y>5 to say sufficiently that xy>25?

My answer is Yes, since we know they are both positive. Is that correct?
