In order to get into cornell, is 640 ok??

by monad2000 Fri Oct 01, 2010 5:38 pm

Hi I just retook my GMAT and scored a 640 Q72% V66% and really don’t want to retake the GMAT again. I went to ASU and have a business gpa of 3.5 and avg of around 3.5. I have owned a marketing business for 4 years. Plan to use a consulting company and work hard on my essays. Do I need to retake the GMAT or should I be able to get in with a 640???
Anyone that could help me I would really appreciate it...

Hi monad2000,

There is no such thing as a minimum score when it comes to business schools, rather your GMAT is going to be one of many factors weighted in your decision.

A 640 is at the bottom of the 20-80 GMAT range typical for Cornell, so your score will likely be seen as a weakness in your application. If you are confident in the rest of your application then you can use your work experience and essays to try and overcome that weakness, but there is no surefire way to do that. Just remember to clearly state your post-MBA goals, why Cornell is a good fit for them, and what sets you apart from the candidate pool.

Good luck!
