Importance of IR?

by sewagnor Mon Sep 23, 2013 11:04 am

I just took the GMAT for a second time and ended up with another disappointing score of 630. I did well on everything except quant, which is probably the most important.
Here's my breakdown:
Verbal: 40
Quant: 37
AW: 6
IR: 8
I'm applying to Haas part time program, which has lower GMAT scores on average, but I'm wondering - how important are the IR and AW sections? Since I scored well on those, I'm hoping they will offset my low quant score a bit. Or, should I skip round 1 apps and try the GMAT for a third time?

Nice work on IR! It's not easy to get a perfect score on that section.

The best person to answer your question is an admissions consultant - I can help if you decide you do want to take the GMAT, but the admissions question is not my area of expertise.

There's a folder here called Ask An Admissions Consultant, or you can go to the websites of consultants and see whether you can ask questions there. (I like MBA Mission myself.)

Certainly, the essay section isn't going to offset a lower quant score. I don't believe the schools are using IR much yet, but IR does at least contain quant material, so maybe Haas will look favorably on that.

Good luck - let me know what you hear.
