If x - y > 10, is x-y > x + y ?

by dheeraj787 Thu Jan 23, 2014 10:44 pm

Hi,

This problem is taken by Ron in one of his video on "The C Trap". Source of problem : GMAT PREP.

If x - y > 10, is x-y > x + y ?

1. x = 8
2. y = -20

The Original answer is D.
My answer is B. becuase,

If we simplify the equation it becomes -y > y

is 2 Y < 0 ?

So all we care about y now so statement 2 is sufficient. so answer should be B.

Pls explain.

You are neglecting the other given fact, that x - y > 10.

Try combining this fact with statement 1, and see what you can find out about y.
