If X not equal to –Y; is X-Y/X+Y>1

by shobuj40 Thu Jan 15, 2009 8:07 am

this two question is from Gmatprep : i just want to clear what i am missin:

If 0<x<y, what is the value of (x+y)^2 / (x-y)^2

(1) x^2 + y^2 = 3xy

(2) xy = 3

here we simplify the question stem (x+y)^2 / (x-y)^2 and get that st: 1 is sufficent

If X not equal to -Y; is X-Y/X+Y>1
A. X>0
B. Y<0

ans is: E

in this case

if we simplify the question we get
X-Y/X+Y>1
X-Y>X+Y
X-X>Y+Y
0>Y
Y<0

from this deduction

so ans is B

what i am missing pls explain elaborately
