I SEEM TO GET QUESTION WRONG IN A ROW

by mirantdon Thu Jun 23, 2011 9:22 am

I do not understand why i seem to repeat this mistake on almost alll my cat exams . I get a streak of questions correct only to lose all my effort by getting a streak of questions wrong.
Does the adaptive nature of the cat have anything to do with it ?

Is this normal ..?

1) Define "streak" - 2 questions? 3? 5?

2) How's your timing during those two streaks? Are you spending extra time during the streak that you get right and then speeding up to try to make up that time? That might be why you then get a bunch of questions wrong - I see that all the time when reviewing my students' tests.

Stacy,

Although this post is now bordering primitive, I do suffer from the same problem, so I hope you would give me your insight on it.

Till now, I have only given MGMAT CAT's, 4 of them. And I made the following observations from them.

- I cannot understand why it happens but I seem to be getting at least 2-3 questions incorrect (in a row).

- More than 85% of the time, I knew the concept being tested and knew the trick, but in my effort to manage time, I make lousy error's
How could I minimize the same?

Expect to get 2-3 questions wrong in row - that's not uncommon. You should start to get worried when you have 4+ wrong in a row, consistently, or when you start to have a larger percentage wrong in a "chunk" (eg, 5 or 6 wrong out of 7, something like that).

Now, careless errors are a different issue. First, know that careless errors are often driven by timing problems (and it sounds like this is the case for you) - fix the underlying timing problems and you'll make fewer careless errors.

Here's info on minimizing careless errors:
